How STTQ Accredits a Qualification
(A very brief summary)
1. The Qualification Must Be Fit for Purpose

  • Developed by profession-specific clinical and educational experts to meet the needs of students and the clients they will treat
  • All units and qualification Levels comply with the Ofqual Level Descriptors
  • All theoretical subjects are formally assessed
  • All practical skills are formally assessed
  • All assessments are valid, fair, reliable, consistent, and accurate
  • Assessments are independently marked by STTQ assessors within a moderated quality assurance system that ensure consistency, accuracy and fairness.
  • A formal appeals and complaints procedure in place
  • A conflict-of-interest policy to ensures all assessments, appeals, and complaints are handled impartially
  • Fully compliant with the Equalities Act 2010
  • Qualifications are reviewed and updated annually

2. Training Centres Must Demonstrate High Standards

  • Suitable premises with well-maintained equipment
  • Tutors with the required training and experience to deliver course content
  • Administrative systems capable of supporting students effectively through their training
  • Deliver a training programme that achieves the Learning Outcomes and is approved by STTQ
  • Assessments conducted in accordance with STTQ criteria, with appropriate adjustments for students with additional needs
  • Effective appeals and complaints procedures
  • Compliance with the Equalities Act 2010
  • Annual review of training centre performance

Independent Marking and Moderation

  • Written coursework is submitted through the secure STTQ portal
  • Assignments are marked by an independent team of trained assessors.
  • The Head of Coursework checks 20% of all marked assignments to maintain accuracy and consistency

Ensuring Impartiality

  • Coursework markers do not see the identity of the learner or their training centre.
  • Practical skills assessments at training centres are recorded and overseen by an independent ISRM assessor.
  • Complaints are assigned to a suitably experienced Board member with no involvement in the people or organisations involved in the case.
